His prose is amazing. I find myself re-reading whole paragraphs. His eye for the telling detail is astounding. I already ordered his book about the Vietnam War, "The Living and the Dead: Robert McNamara and Five Lives of a Lost War."
His "living" approach to history reminds me of Tony Horowitz, but I think he's even better. And he has the depth and intellect and reportorial thoroughness of Robert Kaplan (who has written several books about crises in eastern Europe and Africa and the Mideast and the fantastic "Empire Wilderness: Travels into America's Future"), but he's better than Kaplan because he's just a way better story teller.

OK, I'm getting carried away. This book is actually to be discussed starting March 15 here.
Any and all are welcome to join the discussion.
